There are a few different reasons why one might consume carbs after a strength training workout. Replenishing glycogen stores is probably the main reason and can be helpful for people who plan on working out again within 24-hours.

💥 Carb intake can also reduce protein breakdown following training; however, consuming carbs alone won’t stimulate protein synthesis which still leaves the body in an overall negative protein balance. If you want to optimize recovery and growth, make sure you’re also getting in protein after your workout to maximize your time spent in a positive protein balance. This note is probably more important for those who train fasted, but I’d make sure you’re getting in protein, too.

💥 If post-workout protein isn’t convenient for your schedule, try to consume protein before training for a similar effect.
