Ideal rest time for growth?

Unless it’s heavy squats or deadlifts, I usually do around 1 minute. Do you monitor your rest time or just do your next set whenever you’re ready?
I usually train with a partner, so it’s just the time for him to do his set, probably between a minute and 90 seconds.
