Many seem to think that the quality of calories does not matter when undergoing a diet, but studies show that not to be the case. This study found that eating processed food results in significantly lower diet-induced thermogenesis than whole foods. Therefore, consuming low-quality foods may actually lower your total energy expenditure for the day which will influence the rate at which you lose weight.
