Do women need less protein in bodybuilding ?

There are mainly two reasons why that could potentially be the case and of course that depends mainly on goals, sports played and many other factors. If we’re talking about bodybuilding though: ⁣

1) We know that women produce less T, and gain overall less muscle than men within the same timeframe, which could theoretically lead to the conclusion through which women *may* need less protein than men overall to sustain the adaptation requirements. ⁣

2) Higher Estrogen levels are correlated to a more protective role towards muscle damage: this can result in decreased muscle degradation and potentially a smaller requirement of protein intake to support muscle building and strength training. ⁣

It’s important to keep in mind though, that muscle tissue composition is the same, for both men and women, and while these may very well be interesting insights, there’s no unanimous conclusion on the matter. ⁣

For this reason, we still suggest to keep your protein intakes within the “standard” recommended 1.6-2.2g x kg of BW (lower end will likely be fine, but eating more won’t be an issue if that’s what you prefer). ⁣

Keep Pushing.
