Being Present ! GET IT!!

Being present is a skill you can improve with training.

So many of us are unable to enjoy the present moment and give our best effort and performance to what we are doing because we are worried about the future or upset about the past.

We’re physically pushing our kids on the swings, but mentally we’re stressing about our upcoming presentation.

We’re physically on a date with our spouse, but we’re mentally freaking out about how much work we have to get done this week.

We’re physically petting the dog, but we’re mentally in a frenzy about the bills that are piling up.

Even if you are physically doing your favorite things in the world – sitting on the beach, spending time with a close friend, playing fetch with your dog –  you will still be completely stressed, anxious, and unhappy if your mind is spending that time racing with thoughts about how many emails you have to respond to or whether you’re going hit your quarterly sales target or whether a lot of people are going to like your most recent Instagram post.

To achieve mental toughness – the ability to be calm, effective, and happy in any moment – you must first develop the ability to actually mentally be in the moment rather than, as Seneca would say, losing your days in fear of the night, and losing the nights in fear of the day.
