When the goal is creating hypertrophy, TENSION is the main driver. Our working muscle fibers need to experience high levels of mechanical tension in order to grow, and we know we can achieve this state with any weight, assuming we’re taking sets to task failure. ⁣

When using light weights, we can certainly grow -however- the “downside” is that for each set we’re performing we’ll have to “re-activate” our high threshold motor units by performing many reps to get there. And that’s not optimal if we want to keep CNS fatigue at bay! ⁣

Myo reps work by focusing on effective reps only! Basically, our first activation set of 15-20 reps serves us to recruit all the muscle fibers. Then, by taking very short rest periods of (3-5 deep breaths) we’re keeping recruitment high, so the following cluster sets will be all theoretically “effective” (if done properly). ⁣

This has many advantages: (1) we’ll end up doing overall less volume load which can help reduce CNS Fatigue. (2) all the work we’re doing is effective for hypertrophy. (3) One myo rep set will be the equivalent of many ‘normal sets’ for 1/5 of the time (assuming we’re using the same % of load) !⁣
