Somatotypes: Ecto, Meso and Endo⭕️
I see far too many people still saying that they can’t gain muscle or lose fat due to “genetics”, blaming it on their “somatotype”.
And I still see fitness influencers selling programs and even diets based on “somatotypes” which really fails the reality check, in my opinion. Now, don’t get me wrong, programs need to be customized to fit the indivudual’s requirements, so changes can and should be applied from individual to individual.
But that’s far from avoiding food categories or specific groups of macronutrients, because they’re not right ir meant “for your genetics”.
That doesn’t make sense.
Habits, culture and environment play a much bigger role that we think, and if you happen to “be” in one of these categories and want to make change, try to take a deeper look at your daily food choices and their macronutrient composition, but also take a look at your lifestyle and energy expenditure, and then, make an effort to eat accordingly to your goal for an extended period of time.
Ectomorph ? Mesomorph ? Endomorph ? Try quantifying your caloric and macronutrient intake for a week or two, and notice if your nutrition is aligned with your goal.
At best, (in my opinion) somatotypes could be used as a way to “describe” the look of an individual, but shouldn’t be used as a means to prescribe special training/nutritional differences.
What do you think ? Do you agree ? Do you disagree ? And if so, why.
Let’s discuss.
