Shoulder Pain During Pull-Ups?

🔊 When doing pull-ups, sometimes people experience shoulder discomfort. In today’s post, I will discuss 2 quick tips that will help you perform pull-ups pain-free.

First, it’s common for people to keep their shoulders shrugged when they do pull-ups as a way to tense up. But this puts your shoulder in an awkward position. Let your shoulders move naturally during a pull-up by protracting the shoulder blades on the way down and retracting on the way up.

Also, try to prevent your shoulders and neck from rolling forward. This commonly happens when a pull-up becomes heavy and you no longer can handle the weight. We want to keep the chest up during a pull-up to better engage your back muscles and keep your shoulders in a comfortable position.

If traditional pull-ups are too heavy for you and this results in form breakdown, perform less challenging pull-up variations like the Negative or Leg-Assisted Pull-Ups. You can even start strengthening a vertical pull with the Lat Pulldown if you are completely new to pull-ups.6h
