Low Carb diets & FAST *initial* WEIGHT LOSS

Key words here are *weight loss*, which doesn’t necessarily equal to fat loss, especially in this case.. and *initial*, which refers to the short term, and not long term.

This is not a “one diet is better than the other” post. The best diet is the one you can stick to for the longest, and what that looks like varies for each and everyone of us depending on many factors that play a role on dictating its success.

Here I’m just explaining to you why you can experience faster weight loss when approaching low carb diets, in a very simplified way.

It’s pretty simple: what makes a lot of people “fall in love” with low carb diets (on surface level) is the fast initial weight loss related to the carbohydrate reduction.

We know that roughly, each gram of carbohydrate retains 2.4-3g of water per actual gram of carb, in a 3:1 ratio, so reducing carbohydrate intake results in a drop in bodyweight, just like a “carb up” can result in many gained lbs.

You didn’t suddenly lose lbs of fat, just like you didn’t gain ’em.

It’s just a matter of water retention: you’re likely just as fat as you were before, but because you’ve reduced your carb intake, you’re simply NOT retaining as much water as you previously did.

Quite infact if we match the actual fat loss, assuming we hypotetically are able to match the caloric intake (but also protein intake and energy expenditure), the results will show very similar outcomes in both dieting strategies.

As always, when it comes to dieting and losing body fat, which can come with simultaneous or even NO weight loss, (through a body recompositing) a calorie deficit should be set in place.
