Do you experience shoulder discomfort while doing the Seated Dumbbell Shoulder Press?

A common cause of shoulder discomfort is keeping the elbows excessively flared while doing the shoulder press.

To help prevent discomfort, keep your elbows more tucked and raise your arms in a scapular plane. This will allow your shoulder to travel in a more neutral path and press the dumbbells up comfortably.

This is not to say that elbow flare on the Shoulder Press by definition is “bad.” But if you experience discomfort while doing the Shoulder Press, the form with your elbows being tucked is worth a try.
