People often paint energy balance is a simple in vs. out equation. However, they rarely account for the multitude of things that can affect both sides of the equation. Getting enough sleep certainly seems to play a role, as this study found that, when subjects only slept 5.5 hours/night, their resting metabolic rate was significantly lower than when they slept 7.5 hours/night. Sleep is incredibly important for both recovery and maintaining a health metabolism!
