DOMS” and Muscle Soreness⭕️

“DOMS” is an acronym that stands for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, and it’s associated to the “painful” muscle sensation following strenuous workouts, which peaks around 48h after the session, but that can last for an entire week depending on the training bout performed.

It’s a good feeling, if you ask me. And if you ask most lifters, chances are you’ll get the same response.

Y’know, the feeling of muscle soreness that you get around 24-48h after an intense training session, makes you feel kind of accomplished…

…and the reason is simple: you think your fibers have worked so hard that they now need to recover and get bigger… you know… because “muscle damage.”

Sure, I get it. I understand the masochistic personality of most bodybuilders when they want to “feel” their workout, to call it productive.

Yet – with newer research, not only do we know that muscle damage is NOT an independent cause of muscle hypertrophy… but we also know that DOMS are not even caused by Muscle Damage, and if anything, they only happen as a “coinciding phenomenon” which can enhance — BUT NOT CAUSE — the symptoms of DOMS.
