With more and more research coming out for cannabis, newer cannabinoids are being discovered and studied for possible medicinal/nutraceutical purposes. One of these is delta-8-THC, an isomer of the most psychoactive compound in cannabis, THC(delta-9). The slight structural difference of the carbon-carbon double bond being with carbon 8 subtlety changes not only the way it binds to your CBD1 receptors, but also the physical/psychoactive properties. It’s been said that Delta-8 is still psychoactive, but not as potent as delta 9 THC. Most of the research shows anti-anxiety/stress and depression properties, as well as a calming euphoria feeling. In a cancer study, delta 8 was found to be a great antiemetic(anti-nausea), as well as helping with pain and protecting healthy cells from chemo. Also, according to the hemp laws, hemp-derived delta 8, like CBD is not a controlled substance. Delta 8 occurs in very tiny quantities, but with the booming CBD industry and some chemistry knowledge, one can readily convert CBD to delta 8 and have a large supply. I just thought this was another very cool example of how a double bind placement on a molecule can change not only the psychoactivity but also the legality status. Food for thought.
