D-chiro-inositol is an isomer of inositol that may have some testosterone-boosting and aromatase inhibition. This study was published in June where 10 volunteers were given 1g a day of D-chiro-inositol. The results were pretty impressive: D-chiro-inositol administration was associated to reduced serum levels of estrone (- 85.0%) and estradiol (- 14.4%), and increased serum levels of testosterone (+ 23.4%) and dehydroepiandrosterone (+ 13.8%). In addition, epiandrosterone levels were higher (+39%) after treatment. The proposed mechanism of action is that it downregulates the expression of the aromatase enzyme. The result is less conversion of testosterone to estrogen, and in theory more total testosterone. This is a small sample size, obviously, but more research is being conducted. This could be a new supplement source to combat estrogenic effects from increasing testosterone.
