Feeling those sit ups in your lower back 😫? Some people might be making their low back worse with this movement! If you are getting increased back soreness or discomfort after trying to train your core like this then you might want to seek an alternative movement to still get that core activation! The repetitive bending of the low back might be the thing that is irritating it with this movement. By keeping the back stiff and maintaining the natural curves it might put your lower back in a more favorable position so that you can continue doing your core workouts. Sit ups are nothing to be afraid of for most people, it’s not like it will magically give you a low back problem. However, there are some people that should not be doing sit ups and in general we have much more effective options. If you are experiencing low back issues, DM me about an online consultation!

1️⃣ A Curl-Up prevents that low back stress from occurring due to the hands under the low back maintaining the natural curves of the spine. This activates the core tremendously even though the movement is so small! Keep the chin tucked as much as possible when doing this exercise and lift the top of the shoulder blades off the ground just a couple inches by pushing your sternum to the ceiling. We have much better options than sit ups!
