“CNS Fatigue” is an oft-misused term in the broscience dictionary. CNS fatigue is not necessarily the sensation of being mentally exhausted; rather, it is simply the inability to maximally recruit a muscle. Due to this issue, training in a state of CNS fatigue is not optimal as you won’t be able to maximally activate a muscle – especially the muscle fibers that grow the most from training. Since cardio and high volume training (plus muscle damage) can influence CNS fatigue the most, careful planning must take place when designing a training program – you likely don’t want a heavy cardio day within 24-hours of an intense leg workout.

Good one. People forget that time off from working out is not only for muscles it’s also rest for your mind and central nervous system.
