3 ways your body gains strength, without any additional muscle mass⭕️

With consistent training, your nervous system quickly learns to get more out of the muscle you already have. One way it does this is by increasing the myelination of motor neurons—the insulating layer that helps electrical signals travel faster and more efficiently.
This allows high-threshold motor units, the ones responsible for producing serious force, to be recruited more quickly and in better sync.

Additionally, your nervous system improves its control over how motor units are activated—not just recruiting more of them, but also increasing their firing rates. Faster, more frequent signals mean stronger and more sustained contractions, adding strength without adding new muscle.

Finally, another adaptation is a reduction in the unnecessary co-contraction of opposing muscles. In untrained individuals, movements often involve too much “braking” from antagonist muscles, which holds back force production. Over time, your body learns to turn down that interference, allowing the working muscles to contract more freely and forcefully.
