Where does fat go when we lose it?⭕️

Did you know that when you lose fat, it’s primarily converted into carbon dioxide and water through a process known as oxidation?

Your body accesses the energy stored in fat cells, and in the presence of oxygen, triglycerides are broken down into glycerol and fatty acids. These substances are then metabolized within your cells.

Interestingly, a whopping 84% of the fat mass you shed is exhaled as carbon dioxide (CO2) through your lungs, while the remaining 16% becomes water (H2O). This water is then expelled from your body via sweat, urine, or other bodily fluids.

It’s important to note that while fat cells shrink during this process, they are not eliminated.

[And that of course, this happens in the context of a calorie deficit.]

As always, engaging in regular physical activity and exercise is a key factor in increasing energy expenditure, which can help accelerate fat loss.

As you move and exercise, your muscles demand more energy, which boosts the rate at which your body oxidizes and eliminates stored fat. This is why maintaining a healthy balance of diet and exercise is essential for weight loss!
