How Body Fat (specifically) regulates our metabolism ⭕️

In a new study conducted by A. Martin & colleagues, the goal was to characterize the contribution of the loss of “energy-expending” tissues and metabolic adaptations to the reduction in RMR, following weight loss.

Interestingly enough, RMR was reduced by ~101 kcal/d as partecipants lost ~7kg. On average, 60% of the reduction in RMR were explained by energy-expending tissues losses, while 40% were attributed to metabolic adaptations.

The loss of skeletal muscle was not significantly related to the reduction in RMR, whereas adipose tissue losses were positively associated with it.

Metabolic adaptations were correlated with declines in Leptin, Triiodothyronine (T3), and Insulin, which clearly have a negative effect in how “efficient” our metabolic rate is!

An obvious question would be: “how could we get these markers up ?”
