While Kanna has some great cognitive and mood effects, it’s definitely NOT like MDMA. It is a natural SRI and releases dopamine, which can elevate your mood and be euphoric. This is why I used it in both #preworkout and #nootropic bc it gives you energy and focus. See my videos about Kanna and comment ⬇️ if you’ve used it!

From Vice: Though it’s only recently gained attention in North America, kanna has been used for centuries in South Africa. An hour in, you feel like you’re full-on rolling: elated and full of ideas, wanting to shower everyone with words of affection, and you can’t stop grinding your jaw.

Kanna is legal to possess in the U.S., and some manufacturers sell it as a supplement. For example, Zembrin contains 25 mg of kanna, enough for some people to feel high, according to James Giordano, professor of neurology and biochemistry at Georgetown University Medical Center. “25-50 mg is an intoxicating dose,” he said. Most people will start to feel a mild effect after taking 5 to 10 mg.

Like MDMA, kanna has mood-elevating and anti-anxiety effects. Some say it also helps them think more clearly. Sex on kanna is also comparable to sex on MDMA: Some describe it as sex in “HD mode.”

Though its effects are similar to MDMA’s, the mechanism by which kanna produces them is different. While MDMA makes your brain release more serotonin, kanna binds to and inactivates your serotonin transporters, which means the serotonin you’re already producing stays available longer. This is the same way in which SSRI antidepressants like Prozac work.

Researchers have been testing kanna for its promise to improve cognitive abilities as well as mood and sleep—as such, it could hold promise for people with Alzheimer’s and other cognitive decline. Some research also suggests it could reduce anxiety, and some Europeans give kanna to their pets to prevent separation anxiety, said Giordano.

As long as users take proper precautions, Giordano believes kanna has the potential to be used as a less-risky alternative to MDMA. “For euphorigenic effects, for reduction of anxiety, for mood stabilization, it’s a safe compound.”
