Citrulline is an aminoacid with an important role in the urea cycle. Taking citrulline increases levels of ornithine and arginine and improves the nitric oxide metabolism. It can be used where NO is relevant (ED, athletic performance and cardiovascular health).

Citrulline is produced in our body but can be found in notable quantities in few foods. It was first found in watermelons.

Citrulline malate is the most researched form of citrulline. Malate is an organic salt of malic acid. 1.76g of citrulline malate is needed to about 1g of citrulline.

Regarding the reports of increased performance appear to be time dependent and correlated with the reports of decreased fatigue (also independent of exercise). So this reduction of fatigue in a weight lifting workout causes a relative increase of the training volume. After 2 days following the workout when pre-workout you used citrulline, your muscle soreness can be reduced by 40%.

The increased NO and arginine can be helpful regarding the increase of blood flow but did not influence the blood pressure.

There are no notable side-effects but do not take citrulline if you take nitrates for heart disease or ED drugs like Viagra because they can cause together a drop in your blood pressure.
