Many bodybuilders have long known that we need to use a variety of exercises and pressing angles to maximize development in the chest. Why is this the case? The pectorals actually have seven functional segments (Fung et al. 2009) and each segment (or group) has a unique mechanical advantage to perform certain actions at certain joint angles. This is why we need to use multiple pressing angles in order to develop each segment of the chest. Find the movements that work best for you and focus on overloading them with a variety of techniques throughout your training career.
