Proper hydration is one of the most overlooked nutrition factors in athletes and bodybuilders alike. Poor hydration can have a variety of negative effects, and this study found that hydration state can also impair insulin sensitivity. Mild dehydration (2.5% bodyweight) doesn’t appear to elicit the same response, but more significant dehydration obviously does. Regardless, mild dehydration could still impair anabolic hormone concentrations and overall performance, so avoiding any level of dehydration is a smart strategy for all.
