Many lifters often use overhead triceps extension variations in an effort to hit the long head of the triceps. While this position does offer a stretch in the long head and can often lead to soreness, research shows that the long head actually produces very little force in the overhead position. The long head contributes the most to force production with the arm near full extension. This can be emphasized in many different pushdown variations.
