MCT’s are a unique type of fat most commonly derived from coconut and palm kernel oils. Several studies have shown that consuming MCT oils as opposed to traditional cooking oils can increase energy expenditure and promote weight loss – however, these results have only been seen in overweight or obese individuals. In addition, MCT oils are starting to be examined for their potential positive effects on gut health, however, data is, again, lacking for non-overweight/obese populations. Despite some of the data issues, adding MCT oils to your diet in lieu of traditional cooking oils may promote body composition and overall health improvements.
