Tyrosine is an amino acid precursor to catecholamine production. Catecholamine production increases cardiac output, glucose release, ventilatory rate, and even muscle strength. Therefore, many have proposed that supplementing with tyrosine may improve exercise performance. While this hasn’t been definitively shown in research, tyrosine may improve cognitive performance during periods of high stress or exhaustion. If you feel that your mental focus is lacking towards the end of a tough workout, tyrosine may be worth trying. However, most bodybuilders will likely not benefit from tyrosine supplementation.
